Your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) will show marks from all years of study so, if you have failed credits, these will be listed. You may therefore wish to return to undertake reassessment to turn failed marks into passes or, where you have been offered voluntary reassessment on the basis of accepted extenuating circumstances, to improve your marks
Before choosing to undertake further reassessment after graduating, it is important to consider how much of an impact raising your module markis likely to have on your overall degree mark and classification.
In some cases, raising a module aggregate may result in a better degree classification – but in most cases it will not affect the overall classification.
If you find yourself in this situation, talk to staff in your department about what effect undertaking reassessment may have on your degree outcome, and read the useful points to consider below.
If you are a Law student on a Qualifying Law degree you should also read the specific advice on the implications for your award.
Make sure you read the undergraduate Rules of Assessment and discuss any queries with your department if you’re not sure what to do.
You may still attend Graduation this Summer, if you opt for this outcome, however you will not be invited to a future Gradation ceremony if you attend now, even where your reassessment leads to an improvement in your Degree Classification.
We are pleased to confirm that we are running Summer Gradation ceremonies as planned this July. These ceremonies will take place between Monday 18 and Friday 22 July.
All expected graduates have been contacted with information about when their ceremony will be and how to book. Please ensure your external email address is up to date in MyEssex so we can stay in touch. All updates will also be published on our Graduation website. Please contact graduation@essex.ac.uk should you have any queries in the meantime.
Your electronic award certificate will be available on your GradIntelligence account, alongside your HEAR, within five working days of your award being conferred. If you have been given a choice of outcomes, this will be available five working days after you have confirmed your decision.
You will also receive a hard copy award certificate which will be provided at your Graduation ceremony. If you do not attend Graduation, the Graduation and Awards Team will contact you via your Essex email after the ceremonies have taken place to confirm where your certificate should be posted. If you do not confirm your address by the deadline stated by the Graduation and Awards Team when they contact you, your Certificate will be posted to your home address on MyEssex.
If after your reassessment, your Degree Classification improves, you will be issued with a new certificate which will be sent to you after the September Boards have taken place.
Please contact award-docs@essex.ac.uk if you require further assistance.

Before selecting this outcome, we urge all students to read the important information below:
Reassessment in a module costs £50, this cost applies regardless of how much reassessment you will be undertaking in that module. Any reassessment offered as a ‘First Sit’ is free of charge, unless otherwise specified.
If you need to undertake reassessment in any exams this will be noted on your results page alongside when this examination will take place.
If you are undertaking reassessment without attendance in an exam in 2022-23 this will take place in the main Summer exam period unless you are trailing your reassessment alongside progressing to your next year of study.
