Tennis courses and camps for 4 to 16 year olds

Led by our LTA Level 4 qualified Head Coach, Christopher Harris, we run one of the highest quality and growing mini and junior tennis programmes in Colchester.

Covered by a 'bubble' during the winter, our state-of-the-art hard tennis courts allow play year-round.

Essex Sport on social media:

Mini and junior tennis

LTA Youth Blue: 4 to 5 years

This course introduces children to the basics of the game through a series of fun activities to develop balance, coordination, agility, movement, and racket skills.

LTA Youth Red: 6 to 8 years

This course is taught on smaller courts with short rackets and soft balls. It's just like the real game and gives players the opportunity to have rallies and practise different types of shot.

LTA Youth Orange/Green: 9 to 11 years

This course is played on longer, wider courts, and is a great way to continue the progress from mini red. Players can expect to develop a well-rounded game and improve racket and ball skills, technique, and tactics.

LTA Youth Yellow: 12 to 16 years

Player development continues from mini tennis to our junior programme; exploring the full game and controlling space, shots, and time with the faster yellow ball and full-sized racket.

Half-term camps

As well as our fantastic weekly sessions, you can keep the tennis fun going over the school holidays with our multi-sport holiday camps.

How to book

If you are new to Essex Sport Junior, you will need to complete a children's registration form (.pdf) and return to reception by emailing screcept@essex.ac.uk. Once registration is complete, we can process your payment and book your place.
Essex Sport members can book and pay online using our 'Connect' booking system. View our video guide 'How to Book and Essex Sport Junior Session' for more details.
Parents can also telephone the Sports Centre reception on 01206 873250 and book and pay using a debit or credit card when we re-open.
