Biography

Delia Sánchez del Ángel is a PhD candidate at the Human Rights Centre of the University of Essex. From 2016 to 2018, she collaborated with the Seminar of Violence and Peace of El Colegio de México in a research project on the responsibility of the State in cases of human rights violations committed by the organised crime with participation or acquiescence of state actors. The project also explored the response provided by the state to guarantee the rights of victims to justice, truth and reparations. In 2015, Delia was awarded the Rómulo Gallegos Fellowship of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, where she supported the work of different Thematic Rapporteurships. From 2010 to 2013, Delia worked in Mexico at the non-governmental organization Propuesta Cívica, A.C. giving legal counsel to human rights defenders and journalists at risk. Delia holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex (2013-2014). She is a graduate of the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) where she obtained her degree in Law in 2011.
