We offer many funding opportunities to support both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including a broad range of University of Essex scholarships.

Undergraduate Tinson scholarships

Tinson scholarships are available to applicants from the former Soviet Bloc applying for our any of our undergraduate LLB programmes. We are offering two exceptional applicants a full fee waiver for the length of the course. This fund covers the cost of tuition fees only, not living expenses.

How to apply

Once you have secured an offer (either conditional/unconditional) you can apply, all you have to do is submit a CV, plus a 500-700 word statement explaining why you think you should be a successful candidate. This can include details of activities you have been involved in and, how you would benefit from the cash award, or why you’re looking forward to studying law at Essex.

The application deadline for October 2021 entry is 31 May 2022. The successful applicants will be contacted by email.

Masters Tinson scholarship

Tinson scholarships are available to applicants from the former Soviet Bloc applying for our any of our Masters programmes. This fund covers the cost of tuition fees only, not living expenses.

How to apply

  • You must have an offer of a place on one of the Law or Human Rights postgraduate courses (conditional or unconditional).
  • You should submit a 500 to 800-word statement explaining why you think you would be a suitable candidate plus a CV to pgtlawqueries@essex.ac.uk.

The amount of the award covers the cost of tuition fees only, not living expenses.

CHASE PhD funding

We belong to the CHASE consortium (Consortium for the Humanities and Arts South-East England) which provides doctoral scholarships for UK and international students related to a number of different areas of study, including law. Find out more information and how to apply.

We are also a member of the SeNNS consortium (South-East Network for Social Sciences) that provides doctoral (and masters plus PhD) scholarships for UK and international students related to a number of different areas of study, including socio-legal research projects.
