The Department of History runs an exciting programme of events which everybody is welcome to attend.
The History research seminar meets Wednesday afternoons during term time to discuss a paper by a visiting historian or an academic staff member from Essex. We also frequently organise larger conferences for academic staff and postgraduate students alike to share their research among their peers and seek interesting new opportunities for collaboration.
Every year, the University of Essex presents a week-long programme of events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, and explore discrimination that still exists today.
The Dora Love Prize is a schools citizenship initiative which teaches young people to take an active stand against hatred, discrimination and intolerance in the world today. Informed by the Holocaust, it takes a broad, inclusive approach, incorporating the stories and experiences of all groups persecuted by the Nazis, without losing sight of its origins and significance for the European Jewish and the Sinti Roma communities. Its core message is that if the human rights of one group are violated, no one can feel safe.
