Arabic syntax Group 2009Arabic Syntax Group 2008-09The Arabic Linguistics Group meets regularly to discuss articles on aspects of Arabic Linguistics or to listen to a presentation by a member of the Group. It is convened by Imran Alrashdan & Lucy Johnson. It was previously convened by Mohamed Krer (2010-11) and Kholoud Althubaiti (2008-10). Mansour Alotaibi mqalot Mansour is working on wh-questions in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Najdi Arabic (NA) within the Minimalist Framework and HPSG.
Yasir Alotaibi yhalot Yasir is working on conditionals in Modern Standard Arabic and the Taif Dialect within a Lexical Functional Grammar framework.
Abdulrahman A. Alqurashi  aaaalq Abdulrahman is working on relative clauses and free relative clauses in Modern Standard Arabic and Hejazi Arabic within Minimalist Syntax and HPSG.
Issa AlQurashi isalqu Issa is working on noun phrases in Modern Standard Arabic. The analysis is carried out within two theoretic frameworks:  Minimalism and HPSG
Imran Alrashdan isaalr Imran is investigating certain aspects of clause structure in North Jordanian Arabic within a minimalist approach. His thesis will contain three main chapters: 1.word-order and the position of subject 2.  sentential negation and 3. tense as a verbal category.
Ahmed Alsharif aalshaa Ahmad is working on the topic of Negation in Standard Arabic from LFG perspective. He attempts to provide detailed description of several negative structures in Arabic, and discuss relevant issues such as Modality, Focus and Negative polarity.
Abdulrahman Althawab aasalt Abdulraman is working on modality in English and Arabic. He attempts to provide a description and theoretical analysis of the English modal auxiliaries and the Arabic modal expressions and to compae and contrast them. Based on this, he will, later on, address the problems that the Saudi Arabian learners of English encounter when learning English modals.

Mohamed Krer mmkrer Mohamed is interested in negation in Both Standard and Libyan Arabic. He is working on conducting analysis for this phenomenon in two syntactic theories: Minimalism and HPSG. 
Saaed Saaed ssaaed Saaed is working on binomial expressions in both Standard Arabic and English; I am interested in finding the factors that determine the process of linear conjunct ordering in these expressions.
