Essex Research Reports in Linguistics

Editorial Policy

Ivor Crewe Building The aim of the Research Reports is to provide a quick publication outlet for research work carried out in the Department. Normally, papers published in the Reports will appear in revised form in professional journals or edited books (but not invariably -- for some Reports this sort of publication be inappropriate or unfeasible).

`Work carried out in the Department' is understood broadly. In general publication requires only the recommendation of a member of the academic staff (who are assumed to be recommending their own work when they submit it).

Prior to 2008, Reports were typically collected together into volumes, which appeared at irregular intervals, when there were enough to justify a print run. Starting in 2008 printed copies are no longer produced, and Reports normally appear individually, and are assigned a volume and a within volume number.

How to Submit

  • Authors should submit softcopy (pdf is prefered) to the editor in `camera ready' form (i.e. as they wish it to appear).
  • Formatting restrictions are minimal:
    • The paper size should be A4.
    • Any typeface/font can be used (but the cover sheet uses Times Roman, so that looks good).
    • Left and right page footers should be kept clear, but otherwise authors can include anything they like in headers and centre footer. Page numbering should start at 1.
    • Additional footers will be added indicating that the paper is an Essex Research Report in Linguistics, and giving the volume and number, these footers are placed on the assumption that the Report will be printed `two sided' (recto-verso).
  • There is no length/page limit.
  • There are no deadlines: papers can be submitted at any time.
