Research Degrees

Female student graduating The Department offers PhD, MPhil and MA by supervised research, and the Integrated New Route PhD which combines training with supervised PhD research. You can study and investigate in any of the wide areas of language study covered by our taught programmes.

The Department has a large and thriving graduate community and provides an active and stimulating environment for graduate study. We currently have around 140 full-time or part-time research students. The Department has a strong research group culture, and graduate students are encouraged to take part in the weekly Departmental Seminar which regularly features eminent outside speakers. Two conferences are organised annually in the Department specifically for graduate students to present their work and gain valuable conference presentation practice. We aim to provide research students with work and storage space in the Department, including laboratory facilities and access to online bibliographies, corpora and other resources.
