03 May 2012: Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott to direct play at Lakeside Theatre

'Pantomime' written and directed by Derek Walcott
3-5 May 2012, at 7.30pm Lakeside Theatre, Colchester Campus
Nobel Laureate and Essex Professor of Poetry Derek Walcott will direct a brand new production of his play 'Pantomime', which will be staged at the University's Lakeside Theatre on Thursday 3, Friday 4 and Saturday 5 May.
Set in Tobago in the wake of the Caribbean republic's establishment, 'Pantomime' depicts an English hotel manager's desperate preparations for tourist entertainments at his slapdash resort. His big idea - 'Robinson Crusoe, The Pantomime!' underwhelmes his Tobagan waiter and throws their relationship into a crisis which extends far beyond the pantomime at hand.
Tickets are free and will be released for public booking on 26 March and will be available through the Arts on 5 website or by calling 01206 87 3288.
Further information about the event is available on the main University of Essex news pages.
