Finding rooms at the University's Colchester Campus

Room numbering

How to find a specific room on the Colchester Campus:

• Always find the floor level first.

• If the number has three elements the room is in the Computing Service/Hexagon area around Square 4; an "S" in the number indicates that the room is to the south of the square, an "N" to the north. The middle number shows the floor. For example, 4SW.5.12 is level 5, south side of Square 4, room 12. If the first element includes "NW" the room is in the Essex Business School/History building (entrance 4N); for example, 5NW.6.12 is level 6, Essex Business School/History building, room 12.

• If the number has two elements and the second element has three digits, the room is in the Maths/Social Studies/Rab Butler/Square 1 building area. The first number shows the floor and the last three digits shows the room number. If the last three digits are 700-799 the room is off Square 1; if the last three digits are 500-599 the room is in the Square 2 area (Computer Science/Data Archive). For example, 5.512 is room 512, floor 5.

• If the number has two elements and the second element has two digits, the room is in the Link building/Biology area and the first number shows the floor. (Note: some of these room numbers are expressed as a single element, eg "038".)

Location of teaching rooms

All teaching rooms have wheelchair access, except where indicated by the following symbols on the list below:

Wheelchair access through Entrances 4NW or 3NE to Lift H5. Descend to Level 3, then follow the signs to Lift L3 - Ascend to required level.

No wheelchair access.

Lift is accessed from Entrance 4N.
